Romain Ughetto talks about the French pop-punk scene!

Hello Romain, thanks for taking time to answer a couple of questions for us! How are you doing? I’m fine, my new single is finally out! Holidays are coming! Sun is here! Everything's fine!! :) You have a pretty strong fanbase in France. How did you start your career and how can you explain the “success” you have in your country? In 2011, I've started to post videos on YouTube. One of them was a DAVID GUETTA / USHER’S cover (« Without You »). After that, Major labels contacted me, and after a veryyyyyy long way, I've signed my debut album with a big major company. The latter was recorded in 2012 and released in 2013. With this debut release, I've done a lot of shows all around the country, TV shows, Radios, Press releases… It was a very special period for me. But the musical business is a complicated game… For a lot of reasons, I've decided to continue independently after this experience. And my fanbase followed me on my new projects… Thanks to them, it's incredible, it's been 8 years now. I only exist because of my fans. Do you sometimes miss being in a band, or do you prefer evolving in a solo career? It's different. I make my own choices, my own songs. It's very exciting to be able to do what you want! But the part that I like the most is the tour, with my musicians. We live like a band on tour. I know that you are a pop punk fan but let’s be honest: Involving in this type of music in France is quite hard. Wasn’t it a challenge to release your new single “T’es Comme ça”: a pop-punk song, especially in French? Here in France, the major Pop Punk bands play small venues… For example, I've seen NEW FOUND GLORY in front of 250 persons, SUM 41 in front of 1K persons, and I’ve opened for THE MAINE in front of 500 persons… Here, it's not a type of music listened by a lot of people… But I don't care, I really don't care, this is where I came from. In France, there is no French Punk Rock Bands anymore. I'm really alone right now… but if one day, rock music is going to be fashion again, maybe I'll be the reference for Punk Rock in French!! I'm joking of course :) I only do what I want to do. What has the response to this new single been from both your fans and the media? The fans are so happy! This has been the best start for a single on my Spotify! The video is also being watched every single day by a lot of persons. Some French medias share it. For a rock release, I wasn't expecting that! _bQHyZcElBcRwHaA Could we expect you to release a pop-punk song in English one day? Yes! I'm currently working on a new project, which features 4 PUNK ROCK ENGLISH COVERS!! You also plan on releasing soon your project named “Generation 2000”. Would you mind introducing this upcoming release to our readers? What kind of songs can we expect on it? The project is very simple. 8 MAJOR HITS from 2000’s covers in rock version. 4 French Hits / 4 UK-US Hits. And it's coming… SOON! The last words are for you, thanks for your time! Thanks a lot! I can't believe I'm answering an interview in English, I think this is the very first time for me!
