Illinois metal breakouts Dematerialize have taken time to answer a couple of questions for us. Learn more about their signing with Famined Records as well as their upcoming album, “Omniscience”!
Hello DEMATERIALIZE, thanks for your time. Would it be possible to introduce your band to our readers, as well as your roles in it? Hey! Thanks for having us. We’re a progressive metalcore act that intertwines atmospheric melodies with PUNISHING RIFFS FROM DOWN BELOW. We’re a 4 piece comprised of: Stephen Jinga - Vocals (@ stayfon) Craig Hoffman - Guitar/Vocals (@ ragbelly) Jeremy Verbin - Guitar (@ jverbin) Bryce Tollner - Drums (@ brycetollner). You guys have signed with Famined Records. How's the collaboration going? Really well! We’ve grown this band from nothing alongside the owner of Famined, Chelsea Coronin. It’s nice to have someone on our side who cares as much as we do about the music and making progress. You have recently unveiled a new single “Binary Sunset (Instrumental)”. What prompted you to release a guitar playthrough video for this song? Honestly, it’s just something I (Craig) have always wanted to do. Recording a professional looking playthrough video was always something on my list and I felt that Binary Sunset was the perfect song for it. The track has some really interesting intricacies that made for a solid looking playthrough and working with my good friend Conner Jones on the video gave us the opportunity to add some humor into the mix. Overall, we’re really excited with how it all turned out! This single is taken from your upcoming debut album “Omniscience”. How long have you worked on it? Omniscience took about a year to write in full and record. We aim to release something on a yearly basis so we’re always spending every ounce of spare time cooking up new tunes. 2021 will be no exception!Any funny story to share from your writing or recording process? In January 2019, esteemed rap artist Blueface released an EPIC song called ‘Thotiana’. First day in the studio we discovered this absolute gem & it was all downhill from there… It was beautiful. Turning into a meme overnight in the Demat camp (& honestly the rest of the world) we spent the entire recording process referencing Blueface’s Thotiana. Phrases like “bus down thotiana’ and “ON THE GANG” became common place in our speech patterns. Collectively, we’ve never felt happier. Forever changed for the better. Seriously though, that song slaps. Blueface’s verses are wildly off beat, the lyrics are fantastic and its honestly just a good time. When we look back on recording Omniscience, we immediately think of Blueface’s Thotiana. Epic.Releasing something often means tour support. Do you guys already have some dates planned for the end of the year or 2021? Given the state of the world right now, we have zero tour plans. However, we are already working on more material (always) so we’ll be ready for 2021 in that regard for SURE.The last words are for you. If you have a message to convey, here’s your chance! Omniscience is out September 18th! GET READY!Thanks for your time!
